Facebook & LinkedIn Group Rules

NO SPAM, SELF-PROMOTION OR DIRECT SALES PITCHES ALLOWED! MEMBERS WILL IMMEDIATELY BE REMOVED FROM THE GROUP.

To keep our forum as clean and productive as possible, anyone posting or promoting direct sales pitches is warned once and permanently banned the second time. How do you know if you are promoting a business/organization, product or self? Simple: if your message/post:

** Requires clicking on a link to access information (i.e. news, blog, or resource announcements)
** Promotes a product or service (commercial, paid or free), blog or website, free download, a LinkedIn Group or other social networking community, or an event
**Self-promotional (holiday/religious greetings, personal introductions, etc)

JOBS

The jobs section (LinkedIn) is for jobs and related content for job hunters. Resume writing services, commission only employment or jobs that require any kind of payment by the job hunter are not allowed. Jobs are actual SALARY-BEARING job opportunities. Job listings must include a complete description AND BUSINESS EMAIL. Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, Google or any other virtual email addresses is NOT acceptable; only a BUSINESS email.

Discussions are questions/ideas that CLEARLY invite member responses related to career management. INAPPROPRIATE POSTINGS

You agree to waive any legal or equitable rights or remedies you may have against Training / Sailing Professionals Helping Each Other with respect to these rules, including, but not limited to, member posting, posting restrictions, deletions, or moves, and member restrictions, removals, or blocks. Lastly, be respectful of other members’ opinions. As long as the opinions, views and debates are not threatening, abusive, discriminatory or harassing, everyone is entitled to express him/herself...even if you disagree.

 
 

Sailing in Adverse Weather

Touch Wood - we have not yet had a full weekend cancellation in the Solent through bad weather in the past 7 years. We did have a blizzard once that called for a contingency strategy. We delayed departure by 24 hrs and had the most excellent snow walk and snow ball fight - I was never offside!

See Also Why join the Friends Sailing club? We've a comprehensive H&S policy and rigorous approach to due diligence. All our Skippers are commercially endorsed, experienced and 1st aid trained:

Yachts suitably coded, clean, maintained and chartered with appropriate insurance. Members will also be covered by suitable insurance. We are really proud of our excellent record and work to get better!  
 

 
 

Friends SC behaviour - Good / Bad / Unsafe

There is the potential for 1 or more individuals to undermine/spoil the goals of the club and or an event. The Friends Sailing Club will defend against such actions by:

In the 1st Instance - Advise & warn member's verbally of any issues / concerns seeking to correct any perceived / potential grievance.

Should a grievance/issue persist or should the threat be of a potentially critically nature, i.e. that could make an event unsafe. The club will cancel the membership of the offending member / members. Please see membership and event cancellation policies.    

Club members are grown up's so we expect reasonable behaviour. We consider inappropriate behaviour to be:

  • Prejudice / Intolerance/ discrimination ( race, religion, gender, disability or sexual orientation)
  • Threatening and or bullying with / without physical contact
  • Serious breach of Health & Safety Regulations
  • Theft or attempted theft of personal property
  • Wilful damage of Yachts and equipment, members property etc.
  • Possession / under the influence of drugs or excessive alcohol
  • Breach of Friends Sailing Club acceptable website / Facebook use policy
  • Sexually inappropriate behaviour
  • Giving false information
 
 

Sailing Trip Food & Drink

Food and Drink represents a massive opportunity to make the sailing experience special and we welcome your involvement.

You will be living on a luxury yacht for a number of days. As crew we should all expected to get involved in the preparation & clearing up.

Be sensitive to crew members with special dietary needs.

Refer to hygiene guidelines on board yachts.

 
 

Sailing Event Cancelation Policy

  • Unless specifically stated on registration materials, the deadline to receive a refund for your registration is 60 days before the event date. (To allow boats to be re chartered) 
  • Registration cancellations received prior to the deadline may be eligible to receive a Full refund less a £20 service fee.
  • Cancellations received after the stated deadline will not be eligible for a refund. Friends Sailing will, if the situation permits, seek alternative resolutions.
  • Refunds will not be available for registrants who choose not to attend an event.
  • Cancellations will be accepted via phone & e-mail, and must be received by the stated cancellation deadline.
  • All refund requests must be made by the attendee or credit card holder.
  • Refund requests must include the name of the attendee and the Event reference Number /Date.
  • Refunds will be credited back to the original account (credit card bank account) originally used for payment.

These above policies apply to all Friends Sailing Events unless otherwise noted in our correspondence. Please read all individual event information thoroughly.

Old fashioned navigation -

Approaching from East or West on the "M27" exit at junction 8

After leaving the motorway follow the signs to HAMBLE (A3024) first roundabout. At the next roundabout (Windover) take the second exit, (B3397) Hamble Lane, Get to the right hand lane. Carry straight on to Hamble over next 3 roundabouts .
Continue straight down Hamble lane reaching the heart of the little village. Follow the road round to the right you will find PORT HAMBLE MARINA about 50 yards from the village on the right hand side.
Drive into the marina about 100 yards and you will see the Fairview office's on the left beside Aladdin's Cave chandlery. Pop in to get your parking permit or Call Simon on his Mob.

By Train

The nearest main rail link to Port Hamble is Southampton Parkway Station. This is a (£20) taxi ride approximately 15 - 20 minutes away from Port Hamble. Check out the transfers' options with your event/rally, you might be able to share a taxi / minibus with other crew members.

By Plane

Fly to Southampton airport, this is located next door to Southampton Parkway rail Station. This is a (£20) taxi ride approximately 15 - 20 minutes away from Port Hamble. Check out the transfers' options with your event as you might be able to share a taxi / minibus with other crew members.

 

 
 

Friends Sailing Club & RYA Association

The Friends Sailing Club is planning / formally associated with the RYA. Aligning our club charter and commitments to the sport.  

 
 

Friends Sailing Club Membership Cancellation Policy

The Sailing Club reserves the right to refuse/cancel membership
 
If Sailing Club refuses a new or renewing membership, registrants will be offered a full refund

Friends Sailing Membership Cancellation by member:

  • Membership cancellations received within 14 days of registration may be eligible to receive a full refund less £1.50 service fee.
  • Cancellations received after the stated deadline will not be eligible for a refund.
  • Cancellations will be accepted via phone & e-mail, and must be received by the stated cancellation deadline.
  • All benefits and incentives received by members will be cancelled/returned.
  • All refund requests must be made by the member or credit card holder.
  • Refund requests must include the name of the member and/or membership number.
  • Refunds will be credited back to the original account i.e. credit card, cheque or bank account used for payment.

These above policies apply to all Friends Sailing Members unless otherwise noted in club correspondence.

 
 

Friends Sailing Club Membership Selection

Friends Sailing Club is non discriminatory and inclusive. We want a balanced membership, of single people, couples, friends etc that have the common goal of enjoying meeting and sailing with other men and women of the club.

We will investigate alternative membership levels to accomodate racing, training holidays, families, associate groups in due course.

We will police and potentially cancel membership if inappropriate behaviour, habits or attitudes adversely affect the safety and overall enjoyment of singles events or the clubs as an entity.   

 
 

Selecting Members & Event Crews

The Friends Sailing Club will try to make suitable selection of members for events. We will nominally select based on sailing ability, age, sex etc as the group size permits. We may from time to time, and with your permission only move you from boat to boat in order to better balance our groups

 
 

Online Policy

However, Facebook hasn't always managed its users' data particularly well with many changes resulting in  its policy's and practice over the years.

The Friends Sailing Club has / will have a presence on Facebook. Optionally members can receive information such as events, feedback etc. In addition members can network with each other prior to and post event. i.e To leverage friendships.     

Should members choose to utilize the many features and benefits of Facebook, the Friends Sailing Club cannot be held responsible for any associated claims.

Please consider the types of Personal Data captured and with whom you are sharing that information::

 Likes : Facebook records your personal, band, movie, web page, and any other entity in this section.  See "like" button"

Name, Picture, Gender, Birthday : Self-explanatory

Extended Profile Data : Your family members, city, place of birth, religious views, favourite authors, schools attended; anything that is an entity you can list. Including your  relationship single, etc..

Friends : The people you've added as friends

Networks : The personal networks you've set up on Facebook (e.g. colleges & universities or companies & Friends Sailing Club)

Wall posts, Photos : Self-explanatory

In short - you are responsible for managing your own on line presence and behaving appropriately in your networking with other members and the Friends Sailing Club. If you should find you are treated inappropriately by another member of the Friends Sailing Club, and you cannot resolve the issue alone, please tell us and we will try to facilitate accordingly. Why Join

Safe  - Due Diligence in law is the converse of negligence. We have taken reasonable care within the balance of probabilities to reduce risks to acceptable limits. This includes:

Yachts and competent skippers -safety standards, properly maintained, clean and suitably insured.

Public liability Insurance for members - protecting members over and beyond the scope of Yacht and skipper liability insurance.

Structured -   accommodating potentially diverse groups of individuals coming together, potentially meeting and sailing for the 1st time. Providing a safe environment that is respectful, fair and managed to support member development in terms of sailing and relationships.
